Frequently Asked Questions
Why might I need to create an account on this website?
The Wisconsin Media Lab website uses IP-based geolocation technology to determine if you are a Wisconsin resident. This is necessary because some of our media resources are licensed for use by Wisconsin residents only. If your IP-based address is not recognized as a Wisconsin address, you will need to create an account to use our media. You will be asked for your Wisconsin zip code and school district name.
I am a Wisconsin resident, why am I getting an error message stating that Wisconsin Media Lab’s system cannot recognize me as a Wisconsin resident?
The Wisconsin Media Lab website uses IP-based geolocation technology to determine if you are a Wisconsin resident. It is possible that some Wisconsin residents may have an IP address that is not recognized by our system. If your IP address is not recognized as a Wisconsin address, you will need to create an account to use our media.
How do I view closed captions?
Streaming videos have closed captions. Click on the “CC” symbol at the bottom-right of your video player. Closed captions can be toggled on or off. Downloadable videos do not have closed captions. Contact our Education Director for text files.
How do I download video or audio files?
In the controller bar of the media player, you will notice there is a download icon. Simply click this download icon and a .mp4 (for videos) or a .mp3 (for audio) will be promoted to download to the file system of your computer. Currently downloads are restricted to devices with a built-in file system. This includes desktops, laptops, and some handheld devices. Unfortunately this does not include iPads at this time. To access a media file from an iPad, you will have to first download the file to a cloud storage location such as Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive, etc. from a computer or laptop with a file system, and then retrieve it from the iPad.
