Wisconsin Biographies is a collection of media to enrich the social studies and literacy curriculum, using the stories of notable figures in Wisconsin history. For each story, a 3-5 minute animated video engages learners of all ages. The content was designed around 4th grade standards, but is appropriate for use with younger and older students.
Short text biographies of each individual are provided at three reading levels. These are available on the iBookstore or as printable booklets. Designed to facilitate teaching and enrich student projects, an image gallery provides access to historic images from the Wisconsin Historical Society and other sources.
In the Trading Card interactive, students use graphics and text to demonstrate their knowledge of people, events or themes in Wisconsin or U.S. history. Students can also use Idea Mapper, a graphic organizer interactive, to show their understanding of the biographies and the connections between them. Several teaching tips are provided for each of these activities. Visit the Teacher area for links to these and additional teaching tips for using the videos, texts and image gallery with students.
Wisconsin Biographies is a production of Wisconsin Media Lab
